1999, the original plaster sculpture, about 55 x 60 x 10 cm.
Currently there are three official digital derivations from 2002, 2003, and 2005.
Oliver, also known as Fantasio, is intrigued by every kind of mythology. The majority of the works he has produced deal with this fascination. His artistic approach involves mixing the common with the uncommon. In the case of the Still Life series, he initially created a plaster sculpture that was rendered to photographically capture the element of emotion. The final digital derivation is Oliver’s version of what could be compared to the ‘director’s cut’ of a movie production.
To create a sense of soul in what would otherwise be merely a “still-life-being,” traditional sculpture and digital experimentation have been specially combined as the foundation on these works.
The original sculpture still exists and can be viewed as originally intended by the artist, appearing as if sleeping. The fascination of most viewers is that the realism is such that she appears as if she wants to open her eyes at any moment.
Special thanks to: Martina Jacob (mask model) and Jenni Tapanila (digital model).
